Vědecká kavárna k Blízkému východu
Ústav mezinárodních vztahů uspořádal blok odborných přednášek zaměřených na oblast Blízkého východu. Proběhl křest knihy s názvem "Otevírání Íránu a jeho význam pro energetickou bezpečnost EU" a následná dikuze a navázal kulatý stůl k budoucnosti Sýrie, jež se věnoval jak aktuálním mocenským sférám vlivu a zájmů v Sýrii stran Ruska, USA a Turecka, tak aktivitám libanonského hnutí Hizballáh a Íránu vůči Izraeli v jižní Sýrii coby nové ose tohoto komplexního konfliktu. Cílem druhého panelu bylo shrnout současnou situaci v Sýrii a zamyslet se nad dalším vývojem s ohledem na naši bezpečnost a stabilitu Blízkého východu. Akce volně navazovala na předchozí kulatý stůl „Blízký východ po pádu tzv. Islámského státu“, kterou ÚMV uspořádal v dubnu 2017.

New book by our Associate Researcher Richard Q. Turcsányi published by prestigious publishing house Springer offers an assessment of China’s assertive foreign policy behavior with a special focus on Chinese policies in the South China Sea (SCS). By providing a detailed account of the events in the SCS and by analyzing power dynamics in the region, it identifies the driving forces behind China’s assertive foreign policy. Considering China’s power on a domestic as well as an international level, it examines a number of different sources of hard and soft power, including military, economics, geopolitics, and domestic legitimacy.
