Otto Pick vyznamenán in memoriam u příležitosti výročí vstupu ČR do NATO
Osobnosti, které se zasloužily o členství České republiky v NATO a o českou diplomacii, obdržely v úterý, 12. března 2019, nové medaile Ministerstva zahraničních věcí ČR. Jedním z oceněných se stal bývalý ředitel Ústavu mezinárodních vztahů profesor Otto Pick, který byl vyznamenán in memoriam medailí za zásluhy o diplomacii.

A Security Threat or an Economic Consequence?
An article by Jan Kovář was published in International Communication Gazette. In the article, the author tests the securitisation of the immigration thesis in the coverage of the refugee crisis in Czech and Slovak media through an analysis of the relative importance of immigration-related frames, and shows that the security-threat frame is the dominant frame in the media, while economic framing is significantly less frequent, and that the security-threat frame is more prominent in tabloids.

Hledání podstaty v diskuzi o „hybridní válce“
Článek našich výzkumníků Jakuba Eberleho a Jana Daniela v Mezinárodní politice o tzv. hybridní válce a o tom, proč tento pojem nepovažují za užitečný, vyvolal živou diskuzi, mimo jiné s diplomatem a politickým geografem Jaroslavem Kurfürstem, který kritizoval jejich výzkum o české reakci na "hybridní válku". Jsme Češi, jsme Evropané: Historie a současnost evropské integrace.
Jakub Eberle se společně s poslankyní Helenou Langšádlovou zúčastnil diskuzního večera "Jsme Češi. Jsme Evropané: Historie a současnost evropské integrace", který se konal v Nymburce. Hovořilo se např. o tom, jak EU vznikla, jaké historické mezníky evropskou integraci ovlivnily, kam EU dnes dospěla a jaké jsou její hlavní výzvy.

Think Visegrad Fellowship – Call for proposals 2019
Expert fellows from non-Visegrad countries with at least five years’ experience in their field of research are eligible. Preference will be given to applicants who have already made a significant contribution in their field. New Visiting Researcher: Christofer Berglund
In March (4th-22nd), the IIR will host Christofer Berglund, Assistant Professor at the Department of Global Political Studies, Malmö University, where he is affiliated with the Platform for Russia and the Caucasus Regional Research (RUCARR).

Religion as a Weapon: Invoking Religion in Secularized Societies
New article by professor Petr Kratochvíl in The Review of Faith & International Affairs. The author comes up with the controversial claim that the high levels of secularization can, under certain conditions, make religious arguments stronger, and not weaker as generally assumed. In three case studies, the article shows how religious conservatives forge alliances with secular xenophobic populists, in which culturally defined Christianity becomes the main vehicle for the building of communities of exclusion.
