Mapping Europe-China Relations - A Bottom-Up Approach
The Institute of International Relations Prague participates in the activities of the emerging European think-tank ETNC (the European Think-tank Network on China), which focuses on the relationships of various different states with China. In their first joint publication the European-Chinese contacts in general are analysed in the common introduction, and the following contributions to the book are focused on the bilateral agendas of individual European states with China. The piece by Rudolf Fürst, which begins on page 15, introduces the Czech-Chinese relations.

Neither security nor development?
"Neither security nor development? Czech and Hungarian identities and interests in the provincial reconstruction teams in Afghanistan", an article by Ondřej Horký-Hlucháň and Balázs Szent-Iványi published by the East European Politics journal, builds on the securitisation and post-development literature and it scrutinises the Czech and Hungarian legitimising discourses of the two countries’ respective Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) in the Logar and Baghlan provinces of Afghanistan from 2007 to 2013.

We are looking for a new colleague for the position: Senior Research Fellow in International Law. The IIR is establishing a new Centre for International Law. The Centre intends to research topics at the intersection of international law and international relations. It will pay special attention to the areas of human rights, international criminal law, the law of armed conflicts, international institutional law and the theory of international law. Its ambition is to provide high-quality research while at the same time serving as an expert centre of legal analysis for the Czech foreign policy. The IIR seeks to appoint one full-time research fellow in international law to work within the IIR Centre for International Law.

An expert conference on “Past and present-day lustration: similarities, differences, applicable standards” co-organized by the Institute of International Relations Prague took place in Czernin Palace on September 7, 2015. The conference was organized by the Venice Commission, an independent expert body of the Council of Europe, that provides, at the request of the Council of Europe’s member states and institutions, non-binding legal opinions on compliance of the constitutional legislation of the country concerned with European standards.
